- #89: "I know who killed Shoko Nadami. And if you let me outta here, I will tell you who it is. I suppose you might say I'm lookin' for a plea bargain."
- Akasaka: "..."
- #89: "He will kill again, you know. And he'll take their eye, while they're still alive. There will be more bodies. If you wanna stop this serial killer, I suggest you take my offer. I'll be seeing you."

Inmate #89 (受刑者: 捌拾玖號, Jukei-sha: Hachijūkyū-gō, lit. Prisoner No. 89), better known as simply #89, is a character featured in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES.
He is an inmate at Fuchu Prison in Tokyo, Japan. His identity and nationality is unknown, as he remains imprisoned for several murders. Before his arrest, he was identified as an assassin named Falco.
Design[]
As an inmate, #89 stands tall at around 181 cm (when compared to Iris Sagan's canon height), has black, straight hair with spiky ends, and grey eyes. His face holds creases around his maxilla bones, which become more defined with various facial expressions. His only attire consists of an orange prison jumpsuit, with the zipper lowered down to his chest, the collar raised upwards, and the numbers 89 inscribed on the left side of his suit. He is additionally seen wearing handcuffs whenever present.
Personality[]
Not much is known about 89's personality. When he was questioned, he either refused to answer, or he would give some outrageous answers. For example, when Kaname Date asked about his nationality, he would answer with some African countries such as Burkina Faso or Djibouti.
When asked about his identity and past history, he would fool the other side with answers such as "I have long forgotten."
Story[]
Non-Spoiler[]
In 2013, the assassin named Falco was arrested by the MPD on multiple counts of murder. He was incarcerated at Fuchu Prison and was given the identification of Inmate #89. Not much is known about #89's life inside the prison, outside of a consistent visitor who came to meet him every few months. The woman in question came to speak with #89 about the past, what led to his arrest, and after a while she began recounting her daily life to him. While distant at first, #89 accepted the visits and listened to her stories.
In November of 2019, news broke out of a murder occurring in the Kabasaki District, in which a woman was found with her left eye missing. After #89 heard the news of this incident, he made a phone call to Investigation HQ at MPD, telling the detective who answered that he knows who the killer is, and that he wants to negotiate his release for this information. The details of this call was transferred over to Special Agent Kaname Date, and depending on the player's route in the game, Date meets with #89 for more information.

Inmate #89's true identity is revealed to be Rohan Kumakura himself, whom in 2013 was body-swapped with the real Falco, Detective Hayato Yagyu, and then arrested and sent to prison. This makes Falco and #89 two separate individuals (Hayato Yagyu and Rohan Kumakura, respectively). A month prior to the New Cyclops Serial Killings, Rohan was visited by Saito Sejima, now body swapped into the body of Shoko Nadami. Once Rohan heard the news of Shoko's death, he realized that Saito was her killer, and called the MPD to negotiate. In the Annihilation Route, Date meets with Rohan in person to discuss their negotiations, but Rohan simply tells the story of Falco's past before being forcibly Psynced for information. In the Iris and Resolution Routes, before Date could interrogate him, Rohan had conspired with ABIS member Pewter to plan his escape, wherein Rohan was picked up by Saito inside the body of Renju Okiura. Later that evening, however, Saito forcibly swapped bodies with Rohan, wherein he eventually died to injuries sustained in Renju's body. |
