Story |
PSYNCIN' IN THE MaiN: 2 is a dreamworld featured in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES.
It is the thirteenth chapter, the fifth and final Somnium of the Iris Route. It is a Somnium world created from Iris Sagan's dream by the Prototype Psync Machine. Kaname Date entered her Somnium in an attempt to save her life.
History[]
Date and Aiba found that Iris's Somnium was ShovelForge themed again, but this time the atmosphere was different. In order to focus on saving Iris, Aiba cancelled her entering entertainment and found that even in Somnium Iris had become unconscious. At this time, a voice sounded, asking the two to offer "the fruit of immortality".
Did something about the beam of light.[]
After checking the Mental Locks, Aiba began trying to refract the light from the core above Iris into a pentagram. However, when she tried to investigate chozuya to add a second refraction point, the chozuya had been moved away and she was knocked to the ground by an unknown force. Aiba got up and found that it was the UFO and the Elite that appeared in Iris's previous Somnium, preventing them from complete the pentagram.
Completed the pentagram.[]
After some analysis, the duo decided that reorganizing the pentagram was the way to repel the enemies. To this end, Aiba inspected the surrounding pedestals and readjusted the position of the monuments so that the pedestals on which the monuments are placed can be connected to form a larger pentagram. When complete, the beam emitted from the core were successfully refracted to form a pentagram. UFOs and The Elite fired beams at Aiba, causing total destruction of the ShovelForge world.
Obtained the fruit of immortality.[]
Aiba and Date found that the Somnium they were in had become the real world-alike Ikume Shrine, with Aiba transformed back to her original form in the Somnium world. Iris was unharmed, but still unconscious. The voice asking for the fruit of immortality sounded again inside the shrine, and then the entrance of the interior shrine was opened. They investigated the enshrined fruit and found that it was a citrus fruit seed, and said they need to harvest the whole fruit - a tachibana orange that comes from evergreen trees. They tried planting the seed in the ashes outside the shrine and found that it sprouted seedlings quickly after being planted.
After planting the seed, Aiba investigated nearby objects and discovered that behind chozuya there was a pickaxe that was brought here from the world of ShovelForge for some reason. Believing that Iris did it on purpose, Aiba took the pickaxe and destroyed chozuya. After the chozuya was destroyed, it rained outside the entire shrine, and what had just been seedlings immediately grew into fruit-bearing trees. Aiba plucked a fruit of immortality from the tree, and Date said to give it to Iris quickly.
Gave the fruit of immortality.[]
Aiba came to Iris and offered the fruit of immortality. It was absorbed by the pentagram core above Iris, and then the core entered Iris' body, and she floated up. Words that Iris said when playing games with Uncle years ago spread throughout the shrine. Iris woke up and expressed thanks to Aiba.
Name[]
- The name "PSYNCIN' IN THE MaiN" refers to Iris Sagan's status as the "main heroine" of AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, and, depending on perspective, the main character of the game itself.
- Another possible interpretation is that the vowel pair in "MaiN" is meant to be pronounced just like the title of the game, AI (/ī/). This means that, rather than being pronounced as "main" (/mān/), the word is pronounced as "mine" (/mīn/). This is possibly a connection to the video game Minecraft, which is the real-world version of ShovelForge.
- The "2" in the title denotes that it's the second version of the title, preceded by PSYNCIN' IN THE MaiN: 1, as Iris is Psynced twice in a row and retains certain elements across both versions of the Somnia.
- The name of the Somnium's achievement, "MaiN2: The Eternal Ceremony", means that in this Somnium, Date and Aiba try to complete the ritual of saving Iris by offering the fruit of immortality.
