The Maid Cafe Sunfish Pocket (サンフィッシュポケット, Sanfisshu Poketto), sometimes shortened to SunPoke (サンポケ, Sanpoke), is a restaurant featured in the Lemniscate YouTube series, AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES, and AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative. It is the real world counterpart to the Somnium world Nightmare Irreconcilable and partially to Nearly Interesting.
It is a maid cafe establishment located on the second floor of the "Akihabara SPCHUN Theater (AST)" building in Akihabara, Chiyoda District, Tokyo, Japan. It is owned by the president of Lemniscate, Renju Okiura.
Management[]
Sunfish Pocket is managed like a typical maid cafe found in Akihabara and other otaku-centric locations around Japan. The place is built around an aquatic theme, with fish-shaped decorations and coastal-style architecture.
The maids employed at this establishment are called "Mermaids," whose uniforms are a mix between traditional maid uniforms and scaled mermaid designs. They perform typical services that most maid cafes give, such as having one maid attend each customer, accommodating them in a seat, delivering ordered food, and even feeding them directly. There are 12 different Mermaids serving at Sunfish Pocket, including Amame Doi, the blue-haired Mermaid.
When attending to a customer, the mermaids refer to their patrons as "Sea King" as a hospitable title, and in reference to the king of the ocean, Poseidon. When they are seated, the customer gets a special Trident to hold at their side, to fit with their "Sea King" title. A ranking system is introduced to customers, based on how much money they have spent on the restaurant overall. There are 5 tiers of tridents used at Sunfish Pocket, with the ranking from highest to lowest being:
- Orichalcum Trident
- Platinum Tident
- Gold Trident
- Silver Trident
- Bronze Trident

Story[]
Not much is known about Sunfish Pocket's past, aside from Renju Okiura being the only known owner of the cafe, earning this title by either founding the establishment himself or gaining ownership sometime after its creation.[3]
During or just before 2018, Iris Sagan began taking a part-time job at Sunfish Pocket at 16 years old, potentially as an offer by Renju as her mother's friend. During her time working at the café, she befriended Amame Doi and they began hanging out together. She also began specifically attending Kairo Goshiki, a customer who would frequently request for Iris specifically and would constantly smoke in the restaurant, despite Iris's objections. The stress of her job as a maid combined with Kairo's incessant smoking eventually affected her benign brain tumor, growing malignant. Iris eventually left her job near the end of 2018 or the start of 2019, when she was 17, either to pursue her Net Idol career as A-set and/or to step away from her stressful workplace.[3]
During 2018, Ota Matsushita became a frequent customer at Sunfish Pocket, where he was served by both Amame Doi and Iris Sagan.[4] Ota was served by Amame ever since he had a Bronze Trident Rank, and he eventually became a Gold Trident over time.[5] Around this time, Mizuki Okiura began to frequently visit Sunfish Pocket as well, and —either as a frequent customer or as the daughter of the owner— became quick friends with all the Mermaids and eventually gained the Orichalcum Trident Rank.[6] Soon after, Iris, Amame, Ota, and Mizuki became friends together, even after Iris left Sunfish Pocket and became a net idol.
In the Lemniscate YouTube Series[]
On Valentine's Eve, 2019, Iris returned to Sunfish Pocket alongside Ota to film her third vlog video for her YouTube channel. Here she showed off various aspects of the café in her vlog, including the Mermaid staff and her friend Amame. Iris spent the rest of the video talking trivia and reading out gifts and messages from fans (as well as Ota's Valentine Poem).[3]
Impostor Route[]
On April 18th, 2019, Ota visited Sunfish Pocket and reflected on the events of the last month, following the sudden disappearance of the Iris impostor.[7]
Alpha Route[]
On April 27th, 2019, after Ota reunited with the real Iris, the pair visited Sunfish Pocket once again and spent time with the Mermaids.[8] Many months later, on September 7th, Tesa and Aseton visited Sunfish Pocket once again, with Aseton bringing Mizuki and Ota to hang out with Amame and other ex-coworkers.[9] The three stayed until sunset, where Ota kept ordering from the Mermaids and Mizuki would flatter them.[10] Aseton later visited Sunfish Pocket again on September 13th and took some pictures of Amame.[11] On the 24th, Aseton decided to make plans to visit Sunfish Pocket with Mizuki.[12] On October 5th-6th, Iris visited Sunfish Pocket again with Mizuki, where Mizuki took pictures of Iris that she would post on the 7th.[13] On the 19th and 20th, Iris and Mizuki visited Sunfish Pocket back-to-back, where they both danced together as Iris sung.[14][15] On November 15th, Iris visited Sunfish Pocket, where Ota took a photo of her playing with Amame.[16] On November 22nd, Iris visits the maid café with Ota and Mizuki, where the latter has an omelet rice, before the girls are picked up together by Hitomi and Date.[17]

The following year, on June 8th, 2020, Iris invited Ota to Sunfish Pocket for his 25th birthday.[18] On August 14th, a hot day out, Tesa decided to visit Sunfish Pocket for an ice cold drink to cool off.[19]
On June 12th, 2022, while Iris was trapped in the 3rd Experiment of Hidden Bats, she discovered the truth about Kairo Goshiki, and how his visits to Sunfish Pocket contributed to her growing brain tumor.[20]

Trivia[]
- The real-life location of the AST building is the 2nd building out of the 5 "SEGA Akihabara Buildings," which can all be found in 1-Chome Sotokanda in Akihabara.[21] The design of the building itself, as well as the various promotions to "Akihabara SPCHUN Theater," appears to be based off the "AKB48 Theater" building, which is located in 4-Chome Sotokanda.[22]
- Sunfish Pocket is an anagram of Spike Chunsoft, the developers of AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES.[23] The performance group SPCHUN is a Spike Chunsoft reference as well.
- On the outside of the AST building, the poster next to the Sunfish Pocket poster is for the game Zero Escape Volume 1: Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors, developed by Spike Chunsoft, and written/directed Kotaro Uchikoshi. On the fifth floor, posters for Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (a bundle containing Volume 1: Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors and Volume 2: Virtue's Last Reward) and for Zero Escape Volume 3: Zero Time Dilemma can be seen at the top of the image.
- It's likely that Mizuki Okiura has gained the rank of Orichalcum Trident due to her father being the owner of the restaurant, rather than based on how much she has spent at the café.
- Sunfish Pocket offers alcoholic beverages in its menu, noted by Mizuki during a visit to Marble[1] and explicitly featured via the beer tap at the counter. According to Japanese law, there is no age restriction for a waitress to serve alcohol to a customer, meaning that younger waitresses such as Iris Sagan (who worked at most when she was 16-17 years old)[24] were capable of serving alcohol.
- Sunfish Pocket seemingly allows customers to smoke inside its establishment, and holds no rule against smoking.[25]
- As the owner of Sunfish Pocket, Renju Okiura seems to have some influence over the maid uniform's designs.[26]
- According to Amame Doi, all of the Mermaids at Sunfish Pocket are actual mermaids, blessed with the ability to walk on legs by Poseidon.[27] This is likely a part of the café's role-play, but in the event that she is telling the truth, that would mean that Iris (who previously worked at Sunfish Pocket) was either the only normal human Mermaid at the establishment or she is secretly a mythological mermaid as well.
- If Kaname Date were to choose one of the Mermaids as "his type", he would choose the second Mermaid from the top row of the Mermaid display.[2]
- According to Iris Sagan, the strangest phrase she had to write down for a customer on an omelet rice with ketchup was 鳥取県 (Tottori Prefecture).[28]
- Of the 12 mermaids employed at Sunfish Pocket, only 4 have in-game models, which are used during Sunfish Pocket scenes on the right common path. These mermaids from left to right are: #4 Amame Doi (wearing a blue uniform with blue hair), #5 the mermaid with green hair and green uniform, #6 the mermaid with pink hair and purple uniform, and #7 the mermaid with beige hair and black [patterned] uniform.
- The mermaids' models actually have different colored underwear, matching the colors of the uniforms (blue panties for Amame, green panties for #5, purple panties for #6, and black panties for #7).

- ↑ It is mentioned that Iris has worked at Sunfish Pocket for "a little over a year" (syokubAI), but she has explicitly stopped working at the café after becoming an idol in early 2019 at 17 years old (Tesa Visits Maid Cafe Sunfish Pocket!). A year prior to that, Iris must have started in Sunfish Pocket at most in early 2018 at 16 years old. Her year-long tenure at the café coincides with her growing malignant tumor caused by Kairo Goshiki's smoking (Hidden Bats), which came into effect in January 2019 (kenzAI), meaning she must have worked at least until around December 2018. This gives Iris a guaranteed working period between February 2018 and December 2018, 9 months at 16 years old and 2 months at 17 years old.
