Takushi Ibarado (茨戸 卓志, Ibarado Takushi), also referred to as Taxi Driver, is a character in AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative.
Takushi is a taxi driver, specialising in driving celebrities and entertainers. He has a special relationship with Lemniscate and often drives their talent.
Design[]
Takushi Ibarado is a short, middle-aged, elderly man wearing a black peaked cap with a white brim and round glasses. The contours of the eyes on the face are in the shape of "ハ" and he has buck teeth. He wears a black blazer, white shirt and red tie, black pants and leather shoes.
Personality[]
Takushi Ibarado is an behind the times, profit-eagering man who likes to take long detours while picking up passengers, often commenting on miscellaneous and trivial events that he heard. He is completely electronic-agnostic and relies on cash for transactions. He is not even able to use a credit card.
He speaks with a thick British accent and uses the French first-person pronoun "moi" to refer to himself.
Story[]
Early Life and Working as a Taxi Driver[]
Takushi was born in Kawagoe, Saitama in 1964. Throughout his entire life he spoke with a sophisticated and eloquent accent and vocabulary, something he picked up from his parents. At some point in his life, Takushi moved to the city of Tokyo and began working as a taxi driver there. During his work, he retained a habit of listening to the same radio station, and eventually memorized the times at which different programs played.[1]
Between 2015 and 2019, Takushi began a business venture with Lemniscate, in which he would drive their various talents to and from their offices, and wait in the office lobby for his clients to arrive. Chief among those talents include Iris Sagan, who would travel between the offices and her home.[2] Outside of his work with Lemniscate, Takushi continued to offer standard taxi service.
AA: Tailing after Ota and Iris[]
On Sunday November 3rd, at around 10:00 PM or earlier, Takushi was making rounds in the area outside the Kabasaki District when he was approached by Mayumi Matsushita. She boarded his taxi and told him to tail after the Matsushita family van, which had been recently hijacked by Ota Matsushita and Iris Sagan (Saito Sejima). Takushi, excited for something akin to a chase film, accepted the offer as long as she paid up front. The two gave chase for half an hour heading down the Koshu Highway in Fuchu City, until around 10:30 PM, when Ota stopped the van in front of a FamiSto. Takushi parked at a nearby 8-12 to avoid being spotted, while Mayumi went inside to buy Odoroki-man Chocolates. Once Mayumi's purchases were done, the van—now operated by Saito only—took off heading back towards Tokyo. Takushi and Mayumi, believing that Ota was still driving, gave chase again.[1]
At around 11:00 PM, the van entered the Sejima Residence through the front gate, while Takushi and Mayumi were forced to wait outside. Ten minutes later (11:10 PM), the van—with Saito and So Sejima inside—left the premises, and the chase continued. Thirty minutes later (11:40 PM), Saito drove the van into the Kabasaki District. Despite Mayumi's insistence, Takushi refused to enter the restricted area, and instead parked by the road and hoped for the van to return in their direction. After the date changed over to Monday, November 4th, the van exited the Kabasaki District at 12:25 AM and Takushi was able to puruse it again. Eventually, the two vehicles arrived at the Ariake District, but because Takushi was worried about being spotted, he stayed too far behind and lost sight of the van in the Harbor Warehouse District. Mayumi hopped out of the taxi and ran off on foot, and Takushi waited for her to return. After some time, Takushi decided she was not coming back and left, satisfied that he was already paid.[1]
AAA: Interrogation[]
On Tuesday November 5th, Takushi took a client from Tameike Sanno's studio and drove them to the Lemniscate Office for a brief stop, at which point he decided to wait in the lobby for his client to return. At 1:36 PM, Takushi was approached by Kaname Date, who questioned him about the events of Sunday night. Date asked him for information about his client, Mayumi, and the different places he drove her that night. Takushi excitedly narrated the events that transpired to Date, who left the offices after learning about the Sejima Residence. Once Date had left, Takushi presumably purchased a copy of a magazine titled "Featured: Anyone Can Run A Pyramid Scheme" found in the magazine rack, and then took his current client over to their next destination.[1]
BB: Encounter with Date[]
In February of 2020, Takushi arrived at the Lemniscate Office for an appointment with a young celebrity, where he waited in the lobby. During this time, Kaname Date (now in his original body) and Iris Sagan arrived to visit Mizuki Okiura at the office. When Date saw Takushi, he seemed to recognize him, despite never meeting him in this timeline. While Date was speaking with Ritsuko Enshu, exclaiming "Hold me tight!", Takushi chimed in to help, but was quickly rejected. Additionally, Takushi was among the ones who watched in awe as Yankichi Cinema appeared on the monitor screen in the lobby.[3]
Takushi later joined in choreographed dance at the Harbor Warehouse District later that afternoon, presumably invited by Iris earlier that day.[3]

Trivia[]
Etymology[]
- Rearranging the characters in Ibarado makes his full name "Takushi Doraiba," the Japanese transliteration of "taxi driver."
General[]
- According to Date, Takushi is a self-employed taxi driver.[1]
- When Mizuki is explaining the event in which she discovered Manaka Iwai's body a month prior, she states that she took a taxi from the Lemniscate Entertainment Offices as she pursued Renju's car.[4] It's possible that this taxi driver was Takushi himself, due to his connections and frequent travels to the Lemniscate Offices, as well as the concept of a taxi pursuing a separate car being similar to the events described in the Ota Route with Mayumi Matsushita.[1]
- In the Japanese audio of the game, he speaks with a Satsuguu Dialect instead of the British accent shown in the English audio.
